Cascade Head is a haven for rare plants, wildlife and grassland communities once abundant along the Oregon Coast. This spectacular coastal headland provides critical habitat for native prairie grasses, rare wildflowers and the Oregon silver spot butterfly. There is an upper and lower trailhead to access this beautiful hike. Cascade head also features Hart’s Cove trail head that will take you along the coast ling and features Coastal forests and prairies.
While there are numerous waterfalls throughout Tillamook County, most of the accessible ones are small. The exception is Munson Creek Falls, located about 7 miles south of Tillamook. Munson Creek Falls ranks as the highest waterfall in the coast range, dropping 266 feet over spectacularly rugged cliffs. A sign off highway 101 directs motorists to a 1 to 2 mile roadway leading to a parking area and trails. The lower trail is a short easy walk to the base of the falls with a picnic area nearby. The Sand Lake Recreation area is located along Oregon’s North Coast. 15 miles southwest of Tillamook; between Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda. It covers 1,076 acres of open sand dunes, surrounded by forests and adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. The sand lake recreation area offers a variety of recreational opportunities such as OHV riding on the dunes and beach, fishing, swimming, crabbing, kayaking, hiking and wildlife viewing.
