12th Annual Pacific City Birding & Blues Festival

Don't miss the 12th Annual Pacific City Birding and Blues Festival happening April 29 - May 1, 2016. Whether you're a first timer to the festival or a long time participant, this year is sure to excite. The new line up of nature presentations, guided field trips with some of Oregon's best field trips, new excursions, and fresh community events promise an excellent festival weekend.

Tap your toes and move your feet to the bluesy sounds of our headlining band Franco Paletta & the Stingers playing Saturday night, April 30th at the Kiawanda Community Center from 8:00pm - 10:00pm. We will also feature a soulful band - The Rockhounds, a local favorite and frequent visitors to the Tillamook Coast. The Rockhounds will be playing Friday night, April 29 at the Kiawanda Community Center from 8:00pm - 10:00pm. All ages welcome.

New field trips this year include:

  • Seabirds: Explore the shoreline, rocky cliffs of Cape Kiwanda, and nearby Haystack Rock in search of a variety of seabirds.
  • Coastal Woodland Walkabout: Discover a unique coastal woodland forest surrounded by grasslands, wetlands, dunes, bogs and protected beaches.
  • Shorebirds: Shorebirds we’ll be on the lookout for include yellowlegs, Western and Least Sandpipers and plovers.  You will rarely have the opportunity to bird with more accomplished individuals than Dave Irons and Shawneen Finnegan.
  • Pixieland Restoration: Ask an old Oregonian what they remember about childhood trips to Lincoln City and you are likely to hear stories about trips to an amusement park, gone but not forgotten.
  • Night Owl Prowl: This is Birding & Blue’s first early evening owling adventure.
  • Pelicans talk at The Pelican Pub & Brewery - free and open to the public
  • Featured Key Note Speaker: Dr. John Marzluff reveals that our suburbs and city parks are often remarkably rich in bird diversity—holding more species than either wilderness areas or urban centers. In fact, suburbs may play a key role in preventing loss of species in the face of the dramatic disruptions of climate change and other human impacts.

Registration required as space is limited. Register today at www.BirdingAndBlues.org or by phone 503-965-6247.
