Oregon Coast Drives

The Three Capes Scenic Drive is one of the best things to do while on the Oregon Coast, giving you a taste of the most beautiful and unique villages and towns in the state of Oregon. Pacific City is the beginning of this 40 mile drive. It begins right here at the Cape Kiwanda State Park, near Shorepine Village Pacific City Vacation Rentals.

Cape Kiwanda is the smallest of the three capes but not necessarily the least interesting. As you reach the top you will get breathtaking views of Haystack Rock and the coastline. You continue north towards a gorgeous town called Tierra Del Mar, followed by Whalen Island. There is a very popular area called Sand Lakes which has many dunes to travel in your off road vehicles, primarily ATV’s. You will follow the beautiful winding road a little bit inland which will include spectacular views of the ocean and beaches as well as some wooded trails perfect for walking or riding. Here you can take a five mile round trip hike to the tip of Cape Lookout.

The next town you come across is Netarts Bay, famous for its crab and clams. Three miles North of Netarts is a turn off for a coastal town called Oceanside. Just offshore from Oceanside is Three Arch’s Rocks. Watch out in the spring and summer for many, many hang gliders. Shortly after this is a “ghost-town” called Bay Ocean. Don’t miss the interesting facts about this town’s history posted throughout the town itself.

Take the climb through the forested hills to Cape Meares State Park. Within easy walking distance from Cape Meares is a legendary Octopus Tree. It is a Sitka Spruce that sends six huge trunks into the heavens (see pictures below). You also can’t miss the Cape Meares lighthouse, pictured below. This ends your trip as you round the Southern edge of Tillamook Bay. Take a right on Highway 101 and Third Street in Tillamook and head South back into Pacific City.

The total round trip driving time takes about two hours (depending on how long you stop for!) Have fun and let Shorepine Vacation Rentals be your stopping points! 1-877-549-2632.
